Rev.
James B. Logan
Reverend James B. Logan serves as the Executive Minister
of the Convent Avenue Baptist Church in New York City. He
accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and personal Savior in 1980
and received the call to preach the gospel in December of
1985.
Reverend Logan grew up in Convent and began developing leadership
skills from a young age while initially holding office as
President of the children’s usher board. Under the direction
of Convent’s former Pastor, the late Reverend Dr. Clarence
P. Grant, Reverend Logan pursued and obtained his Master of
Divinity degree from New York Theological Seminary.
While Reverend Logan pursued the call of God on his life,
he was bi-vocational and worked in the public and private
sectors. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business
Administration from York College of the City University of
New York in 1985. His ministerial experience at Convent includes
but is not limited to 13 years of pastoral care leadership
at a community Nursing Home and 13 years as the Minister of
Children and Youth Worship Services where he taught and preached
nearly every Sunday.
In 2008, Reverend Dr. Jesse T. Williams, Jr., the new Senior
Pastor at Convent invited Reverend Logan to join him on the
Senior Staff as the first Executive Minister in the history
of the church. After a season of prayer and reflection, Reverend
Logan humbly and joyfully transitioned from Corporate America
into full time ministry at Convent.
As the Executive Minister, there is a blending of Reverend
Logan’s ministerial and professional work-life. His
managerial experience covered industries such as Health Care,
Pharmaceutical, Outplacement Services and Sports Management
(The Office of the Commissioner, Major League Baseball).
Reverend Logan’s role as the Executive Minister is
a tailor-made position that utilizes his knowledge and gift-mix
to assist the Senior Pastor in establishing and implementing
guidelines for ministry leaders, playing a key role in strategic
planning, while giving day to day office leadership support
in the administration of the church. In addition to partnering
with Dr. Williams’ strive for excellence in church operations,
he teaches, preaches and fulfills other ministerial responsibilities.
Reverend Logan is happily married to Virginia Caroline who
continues to serve faithfully with him in ministry. They have
provided oversight of the Marriage Ministry at Convent for
nearly seven years. Reverend and Mrs. Logan are the proud
parents of two beautiful daughters, Olivia Savannah and Sydney
Alexandria.
